Paper focuses on the problem of school differentiation in local context. Mixed methods research was conducted in one small town of Leningrad region and provided data for the analysis of local educational system. Factors for differentiation such as socioeconomic status, academic results and students’ well-being were identified on two levels: between and within schools. The causes of differentiation were analyzed.

Trends of the Russian-Chinese cooperation in education

The article highlights the trend of cooperation between Russia and China in the humanitarian field, including reducing the study of Russian language schools in China and some increase in the number of Chinese students who choose Russian as a specialty. In Russia, the study of the Chinese language in schools and in universities expanded gradually. Improve mutual learning and performance of students in national universities, but the challenge to bring the mutual exchange of students in 2020 to 100 thousand people it seems exigeant.
